Kupang

Kupang is the capital of the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara, at the south-western end of Timor. The Dutch East India Company took the fort there in 1653, and it became the centre of Dutch power on Timor in rivalry with the Portuguese-allied Topasses of Lifau. It remained the seat of Dutch West Timor until Indonesian independence.
