Timor

Timor is an island at the southern end of the Malay Archipelago, north of Australia, divided today between the independent state of Timor-Leste in the east and Indonesia's West Timor. Its sandalwood drew Chinese, Malay and Portuguese traders, and from the 17th century the Dutch held the west from Kupang while the Portuguese held the east. Many small kingdoms on the island acknowledged the ritual seniority of Wehali.
