Baar (region)

The Baar is a high plateau in south-western Germany between the Black Forest and the Swabian Jura, where the Danube begins near Donaueschingen. In the Middle Ages it was a landgraviate, which passed from the Zähringen heirs to the counts of Fürstenberg in the 13th century and remained the core of their territory until it was mediatised to Baden in 1806.
