Baden
Baden is a historic region of south-western Germany on the right bank of the upper Rhine, between the river and the Black Forest, named after the spa town of Baden-Baden. Ruled by margraves of the Zähringen line from the 12th century, it was greatly enlarged by Napoleon, becoming an electorate in 1803 and a grand duchy in 1806 with Karlsruhe as capital. After 1918 it was a republic, and since 1952 it has been part of Baden-Württemberg.
