Baba Gurgur
Baba Gurgur is an oil field near Kirkuk in northern Iraq. On 14 October 1927 the Turkish Petroleum Company, later the Iraq Petroleum Company, struck oil there in a huge gusher, the discovery that made Iraq a major oil producer. The site is also known for its 'eternal fire', natural gas burning from the ground since ancient times.
