Bahauddin Zakariya

c. 1170–1262 · 13th century · Also known as Baha-ud-din Zakariya

Bahauddin Zakariya was a Sufi master of Multan, in what is now Pakistan, who brought the Suhrawardi order to South Asia. A disciple of Shihab al-Din Umar al-Suhrawardi in Baghdad, he settled at Multan and made it a major centre of Sufism, keeping a large hospice. His tomb in Multan is a pilgrimage site, and Multan's university is named after him.
