Baise Rajya

14th–18th century · 14th century · Also known as Twenty-two Kingdoms

Baise Rajya, the 'twenty-two kingdoms', were the small hill principalities of the Karnali basin in western Nepal that emerged after the Khasa Malla kingdom broke up in the late 14th century. Jumla was the leading state, and Doti one of the largest. They formed a loose confederation and fought among themselves until the Gorkha kingdom of Nepal annexed them in the late 18th century.
