Purang

Also known as Burang

Purang, or Burang, is a district in the far west of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, near the borders of Nepal and India, close to Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash. In the 10th and 11th centuries it formed with Guge the kingdom founded by the descendants of Kyide Nyimagon, and later the Khasa Mallas of western Nepal held it. Its main town, Taklakot, has long been a trading post on routes to Nepal and India.
