Lake Manasarovar
Lake Manasarovar is a high freshwater lake in Ngari, western Tibet, at about 4,600 metres, south of Mount Kailash. It is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and followers of Bon, and pilgrims walk around its shores. The surrounding region, near the sources of the Indus, Sutlej and Brahmaputra rivers, was the heartland of the ancient kingdom of Zhangzhung.
