Lake Malawi
Lake Malawi, also called Lake Nyasa, is a long lake in the southern part of the East African Rift, bordered by Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. Its shores were home to the Maravi states and later to Ngoni, Yao and Swahili rulers who traded ivory and slaves to the coast. Missions and British rule from the 1880s led to the protectorate of Nyasaland.
