David Livingstone

1813–1873 · 19th century

David Livingstone was a Scottish missionary and explorer of central and southern Africa. He worked among the Tswana, reached Lake Ngami in 1849, crossed the continent from Luanda to the Indian Ocean between 1853 and 1856, and explored the Zambezi and Lake Malawi. His accounts of the East African slave trade shaped British campaigns against it.
