Luanda
Luanda is the capital and largest city of Angola, on the Atlantic coast. It was founded in 1575–76 by the Portuguese captain Paulo Dias de Novais as São Paulo de Loanda and became the centre of Portuguese Angola and one of the busiest slave-trading ports in the Atlantic world. The Dutch held it from 1641 to 1648, and it became the capital of independent Angola in 1975.
