Luanda Island
Luanda Island, or Ilha de Luanda, is a narrow sandy strip, originally an island, off the coast of Luanda, the capital of Angola. In the time of the Kingdom of Kongo it was a royal fishery where the nzimbu shells used as the kingdom's currency were gathered under the king's control. The Portuguese founded Luanda opposite it in 1576, and it is now a resort and fishing district.
