Malawi
Malawi is a landlocked country in south-eastern Africa, lying along the western shore of Lake Malawi. Its name recalls the Maravi confederacy of the 16th and 17th centuries. It became a British protectorate in 1891, renamed Nyasaland in 1907, was joined to the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1953, and became independent under Hastings Banda in 1964.
