East African Rift
The East African Rift is a system of rift valleys running from the Afar region of Ethiopia through Kenya to Mozambique, part of what is often called the Great Rift Valley. Its floor holds a chain of lakes and fertile volcanic soils. In Ethiopia it separated highland kingdoms such as Wolaita from their neighbours, and in Kenya it divided the coast from the western highlands.
