Gurage people
The Gurage are a people of south-central Ethiopia living south-west of Addis Ababa, mainly in the Gurage Zone. They speak a group of Ethiopian Semitic languages and traditionally farm enset, the false banana. Their lands were incorporated into the Ethiopian Empire under Menelik II in the late 19th century, and many Gurage have since become traders and businesspeople in Addis Ababa and other towns.
