Lake Mälaren

Also known as Mälaren

Lake Mälaren is the third-largest lake in Sweden, stretching about 120 kilometres west from Stockholm, where it drains into the Baltic. Its shores were the heartland of the Svear, with Birka, Sigtuna, Uppsala and later Stockholm, and its waters linked the region to Baltic and eastern trade routes in the Viking Age.
