Lake Lucerne
Lake Lucerne is a lake in central Switzerland bordered by the four forest cantons of Uri, Schwyz, Unterwalden and Lucerne, from which its German name derives. It linked these communities by water and lay on the route to the Gotthard Pass. The Rütli meadow on its shore is traditionally the place where the founding oath of the Swiss Confederacy was sworn.
