Svear

Also known as Suiones

The Svear were a North Germanic people of the Lake Mälaren region and Uppland in eastern Sweden, the Suiones described by Tacitus. Their kings, centred at Uppsala, extended their rule over the Geats around 1000, and Sweden takes its name from them. Rich graves at Vendel and Valsgärde reflect their warrior elite.
