Uppland

Uppland is a historical province of eastern Sweden, north of Stockholm, around Lake Mälaren and Uppsala. It was the heartland of the Svear, the people from whom Sweden takes its name, and Old Uppsala was the seat of early kings and a pagan cult centre. It has the largest number of Viking-age runestones in Scandinavia.
