Bar-le-Duc

Bar-le-Duc is a town in the Meuse department of north-eastern France, on the Ornain river. It grew around a castle built in the 10th century by Frederick, Duke of Upper Lorraine, and was the capital of the County and later Duchy of Bar. Its upper town keeps Renaissance houses and the church of Saint-Étienne.
