Bar, Montenegro

Also known as Antivari

Bar is a port town on the Adriatic coast of southern Montenegro. Its medieval predecessor, Stari Bar, was an important town of Duklja and became the seat of an archbishopric in 1089. Under Venetian and then Ottoman rule from 1571, it passed to Montenegro in 1878. The modern town grew by the sea and is the terminus of the Belgrade–Bar railway, completed in 1976.
