Batang Hari River
The Batang Hari is the longest river of Sumatra, flowing about 800 kilometres from the Minangkabau highlands past Jambi to the Strait of Malacca. In the first millennium it carried gold and forest products to the coast and was the home of the Melayu kingdom and the temple complex of Muara Jambi. Later the kingdom of Dharmasraya flourished on its upper course.
