Battle of Bosworth Field

1485 · 15th century · Also known as Battle of Bosworth · Part of the Wars of the Roses

The Battle of Bosworth Field was fought on 22 August 1485 in Leicestershire between Richard III of England and Henry Tudor, the Lancastrian claimant. Richard was killed after some of his supporters, notably the Stanleys, failed to fight for him or turned against him. Henry took the throne as Henry VII, founding the Tudor dynasty, and the battle is usually taken as the effective end of the Wars of the Roses.
