1453 · 15th century · Part of the Hundred Years' War

The Battle of Castillon was fought on 17 July 1453 near Castillon on the Dordogne in Gascony, and is regarded as the last battle of the Hundred Years' War. An English army under John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, attacked a fortified French camp and was destroyed by French artillery, and Talbot was killed.
