Battle of Taillebourg

21–22 July 1242 · 13th century · Part of the Saintonge War

The Battle of Taillebourg was fought on 21–22 July 1242 at the bridge over the Charente at Taillebourg in Saintonge. Louis IX of France defeated Henry III of England and his allies the Lusignans, and a further victory at Saintes followed. The failure ended Henry's attempt to recover Poitou and doomed the revolt of Raymond VII of Toulouse.
