Battle of Durbe

13 July 1260 · 13th century · Part of the Livonian Crusade

The Battle of Durbe was fought on 13 July 1260 near Durbe in present-day western Latvia, where Samogitian forces routed the combined army of the Livonian Order and the Teutonic Order. About 150 knights died, including the Livonian master Burchard von Hornhausen. The defeat set off the Great Prussian Uprising and revolts among the Curonians and other Baltic peoples, and it led Mindaugas of Lithuania to break with the order.
