Battle of Galluccio

1139 · 12th century

The Battle of Galluccio was fought on 22 July 1139 in Campania, where forces led by Roger of Apulia, son of Roger II of Sicily, ambushed a papal army and captured Pope Innocent II. Three days later, by the Treaty of Mignano, the captive pope recognised Roger II as King of Sicily, ending the papacy's opposition to the new Norman kingdom.
