Battle of Jaquijahuana

1548 · 16th century · Also known as Battle of Xaquixaguana

The Battle of Jaquijahuana was fought on 9 April 1548 on the plain of Jaquijahuana near Cusco between royal forces under Pedro de la Gasca and the rebel encomenderos of Gonzalo Pizarro. Most of Pizarro's men deserted to Gasca, who had offered pardons, before the fighting began, and Pizarro surrendered. He and his commander Francisco de Carvajal were executed the next day, ending the rebellion.
