Battle of Jao Modo

1696 · 17th century · Part of the Dzungar–Qing Wars

The Battle of Jao Modo was fought in June 1696 near the Tuul River in present-day Mongolia, south-east of Ulaanbaatar. A Qing army under Fiyanggu, part of a great expedition led by the Kangxi Emperor, destroyed the forces of the Dzungar ruler Galdan Boshugtu Khan. Galdan escaped with a few followers but died in 1697, and the Qing secured their hold on Khalkha Mongolia.
