Battle of Leros

1943 · 20th century · Part of the Dodecanese campaign

The Battle of Leros was fought in November 1943 on the Aegean island of Leros, which British and Italian troops had held since Italy's armistice in September. After weeks of air attacks, German paratroopers and seaborne forces landed on 12 November and forced the garrison to surrender four days later. It was one of the last major German victories of the Second World War.
