Battle of Maling

342 BCE · 4th century BCE

The Battle of Maling was fought in 342 BCE between the State of Qi and the State of Wei, which had attacked Han. The Qi strategist Sun Bin feigned retreat, reducing the number of campfires each day to suggest desertion, and ambushed the pursuing Wei army in a narrow pass at Maling. The Wei general Pang Juan died and the crown prince was captured, ending Wei's dominance among the states.
