Sun Tzu

fl. c. 500 BCE · 6th century BCE · Also known as Sunzi, Sun Wu

Sun Tzu (Sunzi, Sun Wu) is the traditional author of The Art of War, the most famous Chinese work on military strategy. According to the Shiji he was a general from Qi who served King Helü of Wu around 500 BCE, though many historians doubt this and date the text to the Warring States period. The book stresses deception, intelligence and winning without fighting.
