Battle of Ménfő

1044 · 11th century

The Battle of Ménfő was fought on 5 July 1044 near Győr, where Emperor Henry III defeated King Samuel Aba of Hungary. Aba was captured and killed soon afterwards, and Henry restored Peter Orseolo, who did homage to him for the kingdom. This subjection to the empire ended when a pagan uprising overthrew Peter in 1046.
