Battle of Sirmium

1167 · 12th century

The Battle of Sirmium was fought on 8 July 1167 near Sirmium (Sremska Mitrovica) in Syrmia, where the Byzantine army of Manuel I Komnenos under Andronikos Kontostephanos decisively defeated the Hungarians. The peace that followed left Byzantium in control of Syrmia, Dalmatia and Bosnia for a time, the high point of Komnenian power in the Balkans.
