Battle of Murche-Khort

1729 · 18th century · Also known as Battle of Murchakhurt

The Battle of Murche-Khort was fought in November 1729 north of Isfahan, when Nader, then general of the Safavid claimant Tahmasp II, defeated the Afghan army of the Hotaki ruler Ashraf. Following Nader's victory at Damghan weeks earlier, it forced the Afghans to abandon Isfahan, ending their seven-year occupation of the Safavid capital and allowing Tahmasp II to return there.
