Battle of Muret

1213 · 13th century · Part of the Albigensian Crusade

The Battle of Muret was fought on 12 September 1213 south of Toulouse, during the Albigensian Crusade. A small crusader army under Simon de Montfort routed the much larger forces of Peter II of Aragon and Raymond VI of Toulouse, killing King Peter. The defeat ended Aragonese ambitions north of the Pyrenees and left Languedoc open to the crusaders.
