Battle of Posada

1330 · 14th century

The Battle of Posada was fought in November 1330, when the army of Basarab I of Wallachia ambushed King Charles I of Hungary in a narrow pass of the Carpathians as he withdrew from a punitive expedition. The Hungarian army was largely destroyed and the king barely escaped. The victory ended Hungarian overlordship and secured Wallachia's independence.
