Battle of Sitabuldi

1817 · 19th century · Part of the Third Anglo-Maratha War

The Battle of Sitabuldi was fought on 26–27 November 1817 at Nagpur, when the forces of the Bhonsle ruler Appa Sahib attacked the British Residency and its small garrison on the Sitabuldi hills. The outnumbered Company troops held out, and a further defeat at Nagpur in December broke Appa Sahib's power. Part of the Third Anglo-Maratha War, it led to further losses of territory for the Nagpur kingdom.
