Gond people

The Gonds are one of the largest Adivasi peoples of India, living mainly in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Odisha, many speaking the Dravidian Gondi language. From the 14th to the 18th century Gond dynasties ruled kingdoms such as Garha-Mandla, Deogarh and Chanda in the region long called Gondwana, until the Marathas absorbed them. Gond painting is a celebrated folk art.
