Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh is a state of central India, formed in November 2000 from the south-eastern districts of Madhya Pradesh, with its capital at Raipur. It covers the upper Mahanadi basin, historically known as Dakshina Kosala, and the forested Bastar plateau, and has a large Adivasi population. Under British rule the region was divided between the Central Provinces and a group of princely states; it is now a major producer of coal, iron ore and rice.
