Mahanadi

The Mahanadi is a major river of east-central India, about 850 kilometres long, rising in Chhattisgarh and flowing through Odisha to the Bay of Bengal. Its fertile delta around Cuttack was a heartland of ancient Kalinga and of later Odia kingdoms, and many small princely states lay along its middle course. The Hirakud Dam, completed in 1957, is among the longest earthen dams in the world.
