Battle of Solicinium

368 · 4th century

The Battle of Solicinium was fought in 368 between the Roman army of Valentinian I and his young son Gratian and the Alemanni, at a hill site in south-west Germany whose location is uncertain. After Rando's raid on Mainz, Valentinian invaded Alemannic territory; the Alemanni defended a steep height but were driven off, with heavy losses on both sides.
