Battle of Solway Moss

1542 · 16th century

The Battle of Solway Moss was fought on 24 November 1542 near the River Esk on the English border, where a small English force routed a larger Scottish army sent by James V. Many Scottish nobles were captured. James V died a few weeks later, leaving his week-old daughter Mary as queen, and Henry VIII then pressed for her marriage to his son Edward.
