Henry VIII of England

1491–1547 · 16th century · Also known as Henry VIII

Henry VIII of England reigned from 1509. His search for a male heir led him to break with the papacy and make himself head of the Church of England, dissolve the monasteries and marry six times, including Anne of Cleves, daughter of the Duke of Jülich-Cleves-Berg, in 1540. He held Calais and waged wars against France and Scotland.
