Anne of Cleves

1515–1557 · 16th century

Anne of Cleves was a daughter of Duke John III of Cleves and the fourth wife of Henry VIII of England. The marriage, arranged in 1540 to ally England with the Protestant-leaning princes of the lower Rhine, was annulled after six months. She remained in England with a generous settlement and outlived the king's other wives.
