Anne of Brittany

1477–1514 · 16th century

Anne of Brittany was duchess of Brittany from 1488 and twice queen of France, through marriage to Charles VIII in 1491 and Louis XII in 1499. She worked to preserve the duchy's separate status. Her daughter Claude married the future Francis I, and the Edict of Union of 1532 joined Brittany to the Kingdom of France.
