1364 · 14th century · Part of the War of the Breton Succession

The Battle of Auray, fought on 29 September 1364 in southern Brittany, was the decisive battle of the War of the Breton Succession. An Anglo-Breton army under John of Montfort and Sir John Chandos defeated the Franco-Breton forces of Charles of Blois, who was killed, while Bertrand du Guesclin was captured. The Treaty of Guérande in 1365 recognised Montfort as Duke John IV.
