Guérande
Guérande is a walled town in the Loire-Atlantique department of western France, on the peninsula between the Loire estuary and the Vilaine. Its salt marshes have produced sea salt since the early Middle Ages, a major export of the Duchy of Brittany. Two treaties signed there, in 1365 and 1381, settled the Breton succession and the duke's relations with France, and its fifteenth-century ramparts survive.
