Bay of Bourgneuf

The Bay of Bourgneuf is an inlet of the Atlantic on the west coast of France, south of the Loire estuary, between the Pays de Retz and the island of Noirmoutier. Its salt marshes produced large quantities of sea salt in the Middle Ages, and Hanseatic and Dutch fleets came each year to load this 'bay salt' for northern Europe.
